Four years after "Golden Staples", the third album of the French band is released, this time as a collaboration between Kicking Records (F), Kidnap Music, and Rookie Records.
"Staring at the Sun" is an ode to the melodies of New Wave, a homage to The Cure and Killing Joke, the cornerstone of a band that drives at breakneck speed on the highway of unpredictability. "Like Gods We Feast" or "Secrets" encapsulate the fantastic shift of gears: adding loops and synthesizers, the persistence of an indestructible bass/drum combination, a wealth of crystalline and powerful guitars, and a lot of compelling vocals. These guys know how to write good songs, that’s a fact. And they also know how to play them. But above all, they know how to give them a soul by infusing the power of sounds with the immediacy of refined lyrics. The lyrics feature clear and powerful imagery that deals with radical themes such as failure, loneliness, isolation, or mental illness. A daily life that is anything but simple, with a message of hope. When asked if this album could be the perfect mix of the first two albums, Ed Scientist does not share this viewpoint: "I wouldn’t say that. I see Staring at the Sun as a real evolution of our style. With the help of (producer) Santi, who has done a real masterpiece, we dared to try things we’ve never tried before".
