Hamburg punks are doing Hamburg school: Arrested Denial release their cover version of the Tocotronic classic "The World Can't Understand Me Anymore" - and they have brought a real surprise: None other than Willi Wucher (Beck's Pistols / Pöbel & Gesocks) lends his unmistakable voice to the timeless protest song from 1996. The Hamburg band casually brings together what at first glance seems completely incompatible: Oi!-punk meets discourse rock. The world can't understand this anymore? Yes, it will! In Hamburg, we say Oi!

But how on earth did this come about? "We originally learned the song for a tour with the Angelic Upstarts to challenge the skins and old punks in the audience a bit. People looked at us like a herd of cows at first. But as it is with good songs: Even there, it was celebrated, and ultimately we still play the number often and gladly live. So we thought it would be a nice homage to a cool band to finally release our version as a studio recording for the 30th anniversary of the corresponding album."
And why on earth Willi Wucher? "We hadn't actually planned any guest vocals. But then Jan Müller somehow suggested it himself. Well, without knowing it, with a very charming post about a Beck's Pistols concert at SO36. That's when it clicked for us, and we immediately agreed: This fits so completely, let's definitely do it."
The guest vocals were recorded in the rehearsal room of Pöbel & Gesocks in Altenessen - which, by the way, is also the legendary rehearsal space of Sodom, something that's hard to overlook on site. "It's a shame that Tom Angelripper didn't spontaneously drop by for a beer, then he could have sung the other verse right away! Well, next time, we still have an unfinished Tom Petty cover lying around somewhere."
And how on earth did Willi Wucher survive the whole story? "Don't ask me, how could this happen! The guys from Arrested Denial basically kidnapped me to cover a Tocotronic song. At 63, you think you've seen and done every crap – but not at all, this was the next level of madness on punk rock level. Let's just blame it on the time change. Screw it! The song rocks, the lyrics hit, the musicians are great, and the fun factor was huge. Thanks to Valentin, whose brainwaves have once again completely gone off the rails."
