Sure, you might say a band is going to the theater - we've heard that a thousand times before, we've seen it all. Punk on stage, how provocative, oh my... Spare us your arrogance! You probably live in a metropolis and have seen everything. Nothing can shock you anymore. But it's different in Rostock.
The Volkstheater Rostock has invited the band to create the music for a play and to perform live with the theater's orchestra during the shows, uh, performances. This very theater is currently fighting a last desperate battle for survival against a narrow-minded urban elite. The venerable house is to be transformed into an "opera house" or just an event venue that generates revenue. The Hanseatic city is thus losing a traditional and critical theater. This is another step towards the cultural desolation of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The band wrote on their Facebook page yesterday: "It's not that we have a great understanding of theater. It's not that we can recite 'Faust' by heart. What we do know is what it's like to live in regions where cultural decline is taking place more and more. How important various cultural opportunities are. That it's important that in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bus stops are not the only youth clubs."
The fact that the Rostock Volkstheater decides to collaborate with a band for a play that, to put it mildly, is not uncontroversial in circles that matter in the country, shows courage and a willingness to engage in conflict. We are very pleased that such different people have come together and are very curious about how the play will turn out. Yes, Monchi is also participating!!!
