Good initiative from KMPFSPRT: The band has designed a benefit shirt and is engaging in the current refugee debate. Additionally, buyers will receive a Tocotronic cover as a gift. The official press release states:
"KMPFSPRT raises their voice in the current refugee debate and stands on the side of the persecuted and displaced. In favor of the non-governmental organization PRO ASYL, Cologne's flagship punk rockers have created a benefit shirt, whose unambiguous message 'Refugees welcome' makes clear in several languages what KMPFSPRT stands for: For a humane integration of refugees in Germany and against the madness of deportation and the EU's isolation policy.
The twist: On the hangtag attached to the shirt, there is a free download code for an unreleased cover version of the Tocotronic classic 'Die Welt kann mich nicht mehr verstehen', which KMPFSPRT recorded back in 2014 but had kept for a special purpose since then. The shirt (plus DL code) can be ordered exclusively from today at the Uncle M Shop (www.uncle-m.com/shop). To generate additional donations, KMPFSPRT will also release the song digitally on August 28, 2015, across all known streaming and download platforms.
All proceeds from the sale of the shirt (recycled Fairtrade cotton!) as well as the digital distribution of the song will go 100% to PRO ASYL and support the campaigns of the independent human rights organization. KMPFSPRT guitarist David Schumann explains the motives behind the initiative: 'We find it unbearable how the societal mood in Germany seems to be developing: Racist incitement, ignorance, and narrow-mindedness wherever you look, instead of the urgently needed qualities of solidarity, understanding, and compassion. We can and will no longer accept that a racist consensus is spreading in parts of society. That’s why this initiative, that’s why the support of Pro Asyl: A very clear signal from us about whose side we are on. Refugees welcome, Nazis out.'
