With City Sailors, The Boatsmen celebrate the joy of life, which is also reflected in their titles like ”Are you ready for heartbreak”, ”I wanna eat”, ”Route 69” or ”I like to drink”. After their self-titled debut two years ago, we can tell that City Sailors shows the band has become a bit older and at the same time much hungrier and thirstier. We still hear that wonderful mix of guitar solos à la Turbonegro over a Ramones melody. But this time they have thrown in a bit of AC/DC blues rock into the mix. The biggest change, however, comes from this new lineup: on guitar, we welcome Jacob Martinsson, or more fittingly: Mr. Rock n Roll!
The Boatsmen come from the small town of Örebro in central Sweden, which has a long punk rock tradition, until the retro faction took over in the 1970s. The Boatsmen definitely want to counter that and are well on their way with songs like ”Psychedelick my ass”, ”I’ve had it” and ”Friday night”! Guitarist Johan Söberberg has given the album its distinctive sound, characterized by a notable live feel. And Håkan Ficks, whom we also know from Durango Riot and SQUARE on bass, has shaped the rhythm more or less in blind agreement with his brother Martin on drums, without much post-production.
City Sailors will be released on vinyl (No Balls Records) and digitally (Rookie Records) on March 20.
The Boatsmen are: Martin Ficks – drums | Jacob Martinsson – guitar | Håkan Ficks – bass & vocals | Johan Söderberg – guitar
