BUIKA - The Great Voice of Spain Comes to Germany!

She is regarded as the great voice of Spain and a renewer of Spanish folklore, which she refines with jazz elements. Her voice possesses the intensity of the great Spanish and Latin American singers, and the comparison with the unique Charvela Vargas is often made when talking about Concha BUIKA. In March, the extraordinary singer will finally be able to be experienced live on stage in Germany again.
In October 2013, her fascinating sixth album "La Noche Más Larga" ("The Longest Night") was released, on which she harmoniously combines jazz, flamenco, African, and Cuban music. In addition to five self-composed songs, it presented intense versions of songs from the repertoire of Roque Natvaja, Fito Páez, Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Dino Ramos, Lecuno, and Jacques Brel. Among others, she was accompanied by jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.
After her first album "Buika", which was released in 2005, the successor "Mi niña Lola" was awarded two Spanish Music Awards, and the third album "Niña de fuego" received two nominations for the Latin Grammy. For the film thriller "Le Piel que Habito" ("The Skin I Live In") by Pedro Almodóvar, she contributed two scene-related songs. Her album "El último trago", on which BUIKA interprets songs by the great Charvela Vargas, was also released in Germany.
BUIKA was born as the daughter of a family from Equatorial Guinea in Mallorca and grew up among Gitanos. Her first steps into music took her to bars and clubs, initially leading BUIKA to house music, before she was invited by the First Lady of Jazz, Rachelle Ferrell, to the Blue Note Club during a brief detour to Los Angeles. From then on, BUIKA dedicated herself entirely to jazz and Spanish folklore, which she has since revived with great skill and passion, intertwining it with new influences.
