MAYFAIR is releasing their new album “Schlage mein Herz, schlage…” after a silence of almost 15 years! The Austrian avant-gardists, who made history in the metal underground with their album “Behind” from 1993, were one of those fascinating stars in the 90s that unfortunately shone only for a short time but all the brighter in the sometimes murky music sky.
But the musical story of MAYFAIR continues: Founding members Mario (vocals) and Rene (guitar) are joined by the new rhythm section Johannes and Jolly (bass and drums) and will release the new album “Schlage mein Herz, schlage...” on November 8, 2013, via “Pure Prog Records”.
With familiar melodies in the style of MAYFAIR, the new album can be understood more as a missing link between “Die Flucht” and the most recent album “Fastest Trip To Cyber-Town”: raw and wild, yet calm and composed.
Singer Mario ruthlessly exploits the power of language to capture the listener in songs like ”Schlage mein Herz schlage” or “Du allein”, while “Abendp_rno” is simply straightforwardly raw. But even the songs with English lyrics like “Firestorm”, “wwwrong“, “Tric Trac“ or “Bitter Or Sweet” deliver real emotional shocks.
The partially psychedelic guitars of Rene paint images on the rhythmic canvas of Jolly and Johannes. With songs like “Drei Jahre zurück” or the beautiful “Island”, Mayfair once again shows what “progressive” can mean and concludes the album with the aptly titled song “Der Abschied”. Created with an early-Floyd feeling, here the special seconds in which no notes are played are ruthlessly savored. An art that not many bands master anymore these days.
