With "Gespenster", HI! SPENCER release an indie track about the feeling of losing oneself in one’s thoughts – and about finding a way to deal with one’s own ghosts in moments of spiraling worst-case scenarios and inner unrest, without giving them permanent space. "Gespenster" is the third single from the upcoming album "immernie", which will be released on 21.08.26.

Musically, driving indie rock meets a palpable dynamic between tension and departure. In doing so, "Gespenster" manages to make heaviness tangible while simultaneously countering it with lightness. Lines like "When the haunting has no end, I learn to outwait the ghosts, when the haunting has no end, they are just sheets with two slits" transform the image of ghosts into something surprisingly mundane – as a metaphor for thoughts that are loud but do not linger.
In the final part, the song ultimately tips into the liberating: "And when the ghosts give up the spirit, lightness makes me float" describes the moment when worry loses its grip and space for clarity emerges.
"For us, 'Gespenster' means not having to constantly run away from our own fears. Sometimes it’s enough to take the fright out of them – until they eventually disappear on their own," says Malte Thiede, who is actually the guitarist but takes on the main vocals in this song.
