SHIRLEY HOLMES announce their new album "My Best Self" with the new single "Coke or Cheese," which will be released on February 14, 2025, via Rookie Records/Indigo/The Orchard.
A few singles rarely come alone - as one could already suspect after the previous releases "Reinforcement" and "Question for a Friend" as well as the tour announcement from SHIRLEY HOLMES, a new album from the Berlin trio will also be released in 2025. With "Coke or Cheese," they are now officially ushering in their next chapter titled "My Best Self."
Luxury lofts, vertical villas, exploding rents - how long can I still afford life in the city? "Coke or Cheese," the new single from SHIRLEY HOLMES, describes the uneasy feeling that creeps over people in "desirable" neighborhoods when the next house in the vicinity is scaffolded or suddenly excavators and containers appear on the vacant lot in the parallel street, along with signs promising spectacular work and leisure concepts. The track is a clear rant against visionless and unambitious urban development policy ("Why don’t you move to the countryside!") and an anthem for unloved new neighborhood magnets and magnates with rock’n’roll in their blood, punk in their hearts, and an energetically melodic chorus to sing out frenetically in frustration. Lower rents, lift spirits!
