After THE DROWNS recently released a split 7" with THE LAST GANG (the review can be read on ramtatta.de here: https://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/9810/), they are back with another split 7". This time, THE DROWNS have teamed up with WONK UNIT for a joint release.

While THE DROWNS reminded me a bit of AC/DC in their split with THE LAST GANG, there's nothing of that to be heard in "The Beast." The song comes across rather calmly, with a nearly bluesy rock melody driving it forward at a mid-tempo pace. The vocals really carry the song. Stylistically, it leans almost towards the 60s, sitting somewhere between soft rock, rock 'n' roll, and beat. It also makes me think a bit of the imagery from Kill Bill. Overall, it's not bad, but also not outstanding. A nice musical treat for in between.

Sometimes when you have a small snack, it really makes you hungry. It fits well that WONK UNIT takes over the second part. The band from Croydon in the UK hits the gas pedal more noticeably from the first seconds. Here comes punk rock with plenty of melody and keyboard support. Every now and then, a cheeky bit of California-style punk rock shines through. Plus, this beautiful, distinctive vocal. It's a lot of fun to listen to the track "Rebecca." It starts in the legs and with the head, goes through the whole body, and suddenly I'm bobbing along, shortly after I'm bouncing around my apartment with a grin on my face. A lovely piece from WONK UNIT, sounds like more is to come.

The 7" is available in solid color (Black-Iced) vinyl and in black-clear splatter vinyl. A strong recommendation for fans!
