THE SLACKERS are back, albeit only with a limited two-song 12" vinyl, but still. The last release where the band presented new tracks was a long time ago, and even though the band has been touring a lot and is currently on tour, it was once again time for new music.
THE SLACKERS, who formed during the so-called Third Wave of Ska, have long since turned more towards reggae. This is also evident in the two new songs. They remain true to their development.
The first song “New York Berlin” deals with the two cities, their similarities, and the connection that the cities have with the band and the band with the cities. As a Berliner, I am of course pleased that they shot part of the video in Berlin.
The song is a calm, nicely danceable ska-reggae track. Here, one can swing their hips beautifully or move gently to the music.
The second song “Tell them No” leans more towards ska. The beat is clearly attributed to 2Tone, while the tempo is more reggae. It is a song inspired by a band member and their difficult times.
This release is somewhat like a greeting from the kitchen, as they say in the gastronomy world. It is a tasty, fine greeting. It is a greeting that makes you crave more, and perhaps there will be more soon.
THE SLACKERS from New York demonstrate with this limited 12" that they continue to play the style they love, which has brought them many fans over the course of their 30-year band history.
THE SLACKERS are currently on a European tour! Starting mid-October, they will also be in Germany.
