Up in Schleswig Holstein, there isn't much left eventually. Plenty of nature and peace, but when it comes to music, it’s rather a blank spot on the map. At least Kiel has had a band for some time now, TOM TOXIC AND THE HOLLSTEIN ROCKETS, that is dedicated to Rock'n'Roll and Rockabilly and has stirred up quite a bit of dust.
The last record was already rated as good by me, which can be read here: http://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/3647/
Now the next blow is coming from Kiel. It’s “On to the next battle“. To match this, the band has recruited a nice-looking boxing athlete and shot some photos for the booklet and the cover with her and the band’s standing drummer. The lyrics have also found their way into the booklet. So, the eyes are already well taken care of. What about the ears?
TOM TOXIC AND THE HOLLSTEIN ROCKETS have consistently continued their path over the past few years. The result is ten new songs. These tracks are very typical of TOM TOXIC AND THE HOLLSTEIN ROCKETS. In both good and bad ways. It’s German-language Rockabilly with Rock'n'Roll influence. The band shows that German lyrics don’t have to be embarrassing. If you know how to handle the German language, something decent comes out of it. This can be noticed in all the songs.
It’s music and lyrics that were not written for the young, wild Billy, but rather for his parents. However, the band manages to sound not embarrassing and avoid drifting into the Schlager league. There’s no better Truck Stop here or whatever else is thrown into the pot of cheesy country or Rock'n'Roll music in this country. It’s music that is cool. Yes, you need a certain age for it. Just like with good whisky.
The limited edition CD, limited to 999 copies, includes not only the studio songs by TOM TOXIC and his band but also 5 bonus songs and a live track by the band. The bonus songs are cover versions from bands that have honored TOM TOXIC by allowing him to cover one of their songs. These illustrious guests include the Panhandle Alks, The Greyhounds, Thee Flanders, Vooodoo & The Headshrinkers, and Bloodsucking Zombies from Outer Space. The style ranges from classic, cool Rockabilly to lively Horrorbilly.
Thus, the CD with a total of 16 songs will be a really cool thing.
TOM TOXIC AND THE HOLLSTEIN ROCKETS cement their exceptional status in the scene with this CD.
