"Pa-Pa-Paderborn, that's where I lost my heart" once said the ABSTÜRZENDEN BRIEFTAUBEN (R.I.P.), but my heart would never beat for this black nest (politically speaking) with its hypocritical Catholic church fanatics (Paderborn is an archdiocese and thus responsible for the faith matters of Catholics from Dortmund to North Saxony!). I must give this small town (somewhere around the 60th place in terms of population in Germany) credit, though, as they have quite a few good bands in the city! This is also proven by the gentlemen's quartet DAMN GOOD KIDS, who may no longer be kids, but I really like their refreshing, always youthful punk rock of the slightly slower kind. The three English-language songs on their mini-EP "Unfortunately….." show parallels to SOCIAL DISTORTION, but also to NOFX. A mix that works very well on this mini-album. "Slayer," the German-language fourth song, reminds me of... no, not SLAYER, more like the LOKALMATADORE! During the 14 minutes of playtime of the self-designed mini-CD, which I find visually very appealing, my thumb is straight up! A great debut album, even if it is unfortunately too short. The booklet is also a bit thin, but the lyrics are included, and for four songs, a 16-page booklet would be somewhat oversized.
And the best part is, you can download the songs for free from the internet using the first link (Bandcamp). Please be careful with the second link (Facebook) to ensure that the "The" is in front of DAMN GOOD KIDS!
In conclusion, the debut album is great, but unfortunately, there are only 4 songs on it; there's more to come...
