PE SCHOROWSKY, drummer of the both loved and hated BÖHSEN ONKELZ, is releasing his first solo album 7 years after the end of Germany's most controversial band. Personally, I belong more to the second faction, but BO has been laid to rest, and in my opinion, everyone should have the chance to be judged neutrally and without prejudice in a new beginning.
It works to my advantage that "Dreck und Seelenbrokat" has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the old BO sound. On the contrary, it presents 12 fat punk rock songs. Sometimes with a touch of metal, sometimes with a touch of German rock, and sometimes casually rocked out. Musically, the 44 minutes of playtime are okay…
And vocally? Well…. My first impression of Pe's singing skills was roughly this: Oh (!) LUSTFINGER and STRASSENJUNGS are throwing an NDW party and Pe is singing along. Casual, relaxed, and fun, but just as ephemeral as the STRASSENLUSTFINGERJUNGS. In other words, Pe would basically just be one of many (unsuccessful) musicians, but due to his past, his solo album will definitely sell very well, no question about it.
Especially towards the end of the album, I also like the lyrics, for example, to the songs "Opfer" and "Geist"; those songs are really good. However, there are also songs where the lyrics are, well….
In summary, the debut album is okay. "Dreck und Seelenbrokat" doesn't make it into the permanent rotation of my CD player, but it also won't end up in the trash.
