CD Review – SS Kaliert – Subzero.

For what feels like 100 years, I have been following the Ruhrpott critters from SS – Kaliert. Just the annoying way the 5 guys from the heart of the Ruhrpott have to constantly justify their name is enough.
Let’s put all that aside today and lovingly dedicate ourselves to the new CD titled "Subzero," which is being released for the first time on a professional label.

The folks at People like you Rec., who also have the gentlemen from Broilers under their wing, give SS-KALIERT the chance to reap the rewards of the last few years and pay tribute to their loyalty and hard work.

But let's get to the essentials. The music...

"Vorhang auf" is the first track, and it immediately clears your ear canals. A crystal-clear production that doesn’t lose its DIY charm. A juicy piece of Assel Punk that simply sounds awesome. It makes you crave more.

"SS-KALIERT" comes out of the speakers very aggressively and powerfully. The guitar riffing is striking, coming across very differentiated and clean. Thanks to the modern production, we have a lot of NY Hardcore elements in play. Respect!!!

Wohoooo..."Subzero" seamlessly continues my theory of HC. Away from the punk rock cliché, there is really some serious work being done here. Varied, with some nice tempo changes and a guitar that invites you to throw the mosh pit into chaos. Dear people, this is how hardcore punk should sound.

"Burn Down" could be a title from The Casualties. This should be taken positively, as I really like this US band. However, what I don’t like so much is the mix of English and German lyrics. To me, it sounds a bit like reaching for international business, and that rubs me the wrong way. I believe that as a band in its formation, one should be clear about what one wants.

Anyway, moving on. "Sayonare" is short, punchy, and hits right in the face again. In short...we have some cool shit on the turntable here.

With "Make the crash," we initially get a slightly sluggish piece of music, which then resolves into the finest hardcore.
With "S********," we also get the straightforward 3-chord punk that somewhat reminds me of Sodoms "Ausgebombt." Man, how much do I like this album.

Classically with short, concise pieces. Refined production that is not often found in this direction, and a total of 13 tracks that all have a certain cult factor. Varied and very interesting in many places. Just the piece "Der Parasit," which completely falls out of the frame here, makes the listening worthwhile.

Before the praise continues, I’ll just say...BUY IT and see for yourself.

Have fun with it...
