The WALTER ELF have written and recorded new songs, which can be heard on this maxi-CD or alternatively on a 7" vinyl.
That alone makes (fun) German punk hearts beat faster!
WALTER ELF was founded in 1983 and quickly developed into one of the most well-known bands that combined punk with fun, as well as socially critical and political lyrics. Like so many bands, the group disbanded far too early. Many memories of the good old days remain, along with occasional shows where the band rises again exclusively for one night. There haven't been any new songs for a long time.
Now the band pays tribute to their favorite club with three new songs. The red devils from Kaiserslautern are closely connected with WALTER ELF, and the band with the club. The proceeds from this record will benefit a charitable cause by 50%. The band has even managed to convince three players from the team to get involved for this charitable purpose as well. Can anything bad be said about this record?
Well, somehow yes.
What stands out is the clean, almost clinically sterile production of the songs. Everything sounds perfect, like a radio song. All the rough edges have been smoothed out. The songs are of course also a bit made for the stadium, especially "Der Betze brennt". This is pure stadium football rock. If the song soon echoes through the Betze before every match, I wouldn't be surprised. A nice football song.
However, song number two, "1991", sounds quite a bit like Sportfreunde Stiller. That doesn't have to be, as what does the band have to prove to themselves and the fans? Nothing more! Absolutely nothing. The opener "Men in Red" is a melodic rock song that is just fine. This music used to be punk, people!!
For WALTER ELF – as well as Kaiserslautern – fans, there shouldn't be anything to discuss here.
