THE ROXIES from Berlin will release their second album on March 7, 2025, on the well-known label “Flight13 Records.”
I know the label, but I wasn't familiar with the band, even though I come from Berlin.
THE ROXIES are four people from Berlin who released their debut album in 2022, and as I look at the faces of the band members, I wonder if I recognize Bruno Werner on guitar from somewhere. Didn't he play with the Berlin '77 punk band Grubby Things?
With their second album featuring 12 songs, THE ROXIES demonstrate that they have been making music for quite some time.
All the songs float in a cosmos of poppy punk rock, power pop, a bit of mod, some bubblegum (trash) punk rock, and a pinch of rock and roll.
The recordings are very fitting and above all doubts.
The songs are catchy. They make your head and legs move along.
“Keep you up at Night” is fun. This has made the Berliners known, among others, at Buster Shuffle, whose singer Jet has nothing but praise for the band. That’s a great reference and shows good taste.
There’s little to criticize about the album, except perhaps that not much sticks after a listen. It’s very pleasant background music, in the best sense. I can also imagine the band performing live very well and think that anyone who checks out the band will have a good time.
Personally, I find “Keep you up at Night” a bit too clean, which doesn’t mean that the band isn’t good.
On March 1, 2025, the band will celebrate their record release party at Wild at Heart!
“Keep you up at Night” will be released only on vinyl.
