THE CALMATIX are releasing their debut album on Hellcat Records. This is like a knightly accolade, as Hellcat Records is owned by none other than Tim Armstrong, the head and mastermind of Rancid.
Sometimes you meet someone at the very beginning of your career who not only lends you a helping hand but also significantly promotes you. Tim Armstrong certainly has a knack for this. His intuition has not let him down here either.
THE CALMATIX play wonderfully diverse old-school ska, rocksteady with reggae influences. This is complemented by a distinctive soul note with a bit of pop, ska-pop, and a touch of the 60s. It reads like a long list and sounds incredibly groovy and danceable.
The perfectly placed voice of Raylin Joy gives each song soul. Raylin was born in Ventura, California, grew up in Scotland, and returned to the USA at the age of 23. In this regard, her clear, gentle, and distinct voice is all the more remarkable, as Scots are generally not known for their clear pronunciation, at least to the ears of non-Scots.
The recording showcases great skill and, above all, extensive knowledge, as this sound can also be done poorly. Here, everything is perfectly placed. The vocals, drums, guitar, and bass, as well as additional keyboard, trumpet, and trombone for some songs.

The band will soon embark on their first West Coast tour in the USA. It is to be hoped that the band will soon make the leap across the big pond. With their debut album, they will capture hearts in a storm and get people dancing.
