45 ADAPTERS from Brooklyn, New York, USA were previously unknown to me. The band was described to me as an Oi-Rock band, and my interest was piqued.
45 ADAPTERS have released one album so far, which was in 2014.
After several singles and EPs, “Unstoppable“ is now hitting the market.
The twelve songs on the album are far more than what one would expect from a standard band in the Oi genre. The songs definitely have Oi and street rock as their foundation. On this foundation, the band builds twelve different, varied, and melodic songs that sometimes make me wonder if all of this really comes from a single band.
At times, the song has a nearly dark rock vibe, then it shifts towards California punk rock, and then I think that Paul McKenzie from The Real McKenzies is singing. Then there’s a clear Oi-punk edge.
The album is definitely a lot of fun because it is so varied and full of energy.
The recording is beyond any doubt. The drums drive the band forward, and Pickabar's vocals are powerful, angry, and diverse. He doesn’t just shout into his microphone. He can also sing, hold notes, and gives each song a distinctly recognizable touch with this variety.
In the song “Guilty by Participation“, the guitar playing reminds me of “Time for Suicide“ by 4Promille. Not a bad reference.
With “Unstoppable“, 45 ADAPTERS have released an album that probably won’t appeal to everyone because it is not standard.
Here, a band does what they feel like doing. That is commendable.
And besides, anyone with the slogan -We dress well and drink heavily- can’t be that bad. Both at the bar and on stage.
