Alkaline Trio lets us take a glimpse into a darker dimension of their upcoming album with "Versions of You," the third single from "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs," which will be released on January 26 via Rise Records.
Built on a hypnotic, quirky riff that forms the foundation for a passionate performance by bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano and an elevated harmony with guitarist/vocalist Matt Skiba, "Versions of You" is instantly recognizable as typical Alkaline Trio while being completely unique in the band's discography. With the outstanding production skills of GRAMMY winner Cameron Webb, "Versions of You" stylishly opens 2024 with the kind of dark and sweet earworm that only Alkaline Trio can create.
Dan Andriano recalls the creation of the song: "This song had something really exciting about it from the start, a raw energy that we didn't want to let go of. I was playing guitar and showed Cameron a part, Matt grabbed a bass and created this killer, disjointed groove underneath what became the verse. It felt raw and wild, and we knew we had to capture that, so we did it as the red light came on.
About the lyrics that completed "Versions of You," Andriano adds: "It's a song about sorting through the wreckage of a broken friendship and the subsequent realization that there's just nothing to rebuild... that the whole thing might have been artificial and driven by selfish motives."

"Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" was recorded with GRAMMY-winning producer Cameron Webb at Studio 606 in Northridge, California, and presents Alkaline Trio, stripping their sound down to the skin and bones of their distinctive sonic spirit and bringing this dark essence to previously unknown territories. "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs" is not only a darkly glowing example of the trio's signature blend of ironic lyrical wit and bittersweet melodic sensibility but also a confluence of ends and beginnings - it is both the first album to be released on the band's new label, Rise Records, and the last to feature long-time member Derek Grant, who has played drums on all Alkaline Trio albums since the classic "Good Mourning" in 2003.
