Al Gore, former American Vice President and now an extremely active environmentalist, is trying to raise awareness of climate change through large-scale actions. Together with music producer Kevin Wall, he has launched a global concert series modeled after Live Aid. On Live Earth, concerts will take place all day long on all seven continents on 07.07.07. This event is about much more than just the music; the climate protection alliance Save Our Selves (SOS), founded by Wall, aims to draw attention to the dramatic effects of pollution. The proceeds will finance a foundation for climate protection.
All participating bands can be found on the specially created MSN page http://liveearth.de.msn.com/photos/list.aspx. These include AFI, Metallica, Linkin Park, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The over 100 announced artists, with an estimated 2 billion viewers, would make Live Earth the largest benefit and music event of all time.
Under the motto Friends of Live Earth, there will also be over 7000 smaller events in around 130 countries on July 7, which will be broadcast via satellite. For this, Live Earth will provide a globally distributed and ad-free TV signal for 22 hours. Pro7 will repeatedly report on the concert in Hamburg between 3 PM and 10 PM. At 8:15 PM, the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore, which just premiered in cinemas a few months ago, will air. The news channel N24 will broadcast from all concerts throughout the day.
