The hardcore band DRAIN from Santa Cruz has today released a music video for their cover version of the Descendents song "Good Good Things", which will appear on their new album LIVING PROOF on May 5. The band, which trades its thrash roots for melodic punk, takes on the classic from 1985 and showcases the gentle baritone vocals of frontman Sammy Ciaramitaro for the first time. In homage to their legendary label mates, Sammy explains:
"The Descendents were a huge band for me both as a teenager and as an adult. I know I can speak for all of us when I say it’s an honor to pay tribute and show respect to them, as this band changed the game for us. I just love this song, and in a strange way, I felt like it lyrically touches on the themes that Drain is all about.
It was definitely a small step outside of our path, with cleaner vocals and so on, but we wanted to try to stay true to the original while giving it a bit of our personality. Check out the Descendents."

LIVING PROOF injects hardcore with a hefty dose of sympathy for its penchant for hardness and brutality - not to mention its catchiness. Produced by their longtime friend and multi-instrumentalist Taylor Young (God's Hate, Suicide Silence) and mixed by Jon Markson (Drug Church, Koyo), this is an album for anyone looking for some good, friendly hardcore fun. The highly anticipated follow-up to their debut California Cursed (2020), the upcoming album and the recently announced headlining tour are a testament to the hard work and heartfelt ethos at the core of DRAIN's feel-good psyche.
Coming from humble DIY beginnings, DRAIN was formed in 2014 and built their scene alongside friends who later formed bands like Scowl, Gulch, and Sunami. In the process of paving the way for hardcore to thrive in their beach town of Santa Cruz, California, they have created a legacy that extends beyond their Californian roots. After releasing two EPs and an album, they signed with Epitaph in 2021 with their debut single "Watch You Burn". With strong influences from thrash and 80s/90s hardcore, they also mix in an eclectic blend of modern influences that have been praised by Stereogum, Revolver, The FADER, BrooklynVegan, Kerrang! and others.
