The BOOZE CRUISE Festival is entering its ninth round: From June 23 to 25, 2023, around 60 punk and indie bands from all over the world will perform live in the heart of Hamburg, in and around the Hamburg harbor.
Sometimes in a club, sometimes in a brewery, sometimes on a harbor ferry. Festival-goers can walk from one location to another – with ships and harbor cranes always in sight or earshot. Those who want can enjoy cocktails served in real pineapples (note, pre-order!) or take home a lasting memory: Almost Famous Tattoos will offer Booze Cruise-themed tattoos over the weekend.The festival started in 2016 when Stefan Jonas-Stephany and friends wanted to celebrate the birthday of their fanzine DOWNPOUR. Back then, they celebrated with two bands on the MS Hedi, and since then the festival has grown year after year. In 2023, the BOOZE CRUISE has a lineup that is impressive:
His songs should not be missing from any emo mixtape - ROCKY VOTOLATO from the USA is one of the headliners of the festival. He is considered a co-founder of the sound that has influenced bands like JIMMY EAT WORLD and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE with his band WAXWING. Rocky Votolato was the first singer of an emo band to pursue a solo career simultaneously, inspiring artists like Chuck Ragan, Dave Hause, and Conor Oberst.
Other highlights include MARTHA (UK), TOYBLOID (FR), and MOBINA GALORE (CAN): They play feminist punk rock. For organizer Stefan Jonas-Stephany, 41, this is important: “Many festivals have an almost exclusively male lineup, and I’m not into that. The Booze Cruise wants to counter this and tries to provide a stage for as many bands with female involvement as possible.”
From the USA, THE MENZINGERS and NO TRIGGER will fly in, performing as headliners on the open-air stage in the backyard of Molotow on Friday and Saturday, respectively. For the first time, SLOWKISS, a band from Chile, will also be part of the lineup. Additionally, THE FLATLINERS (CAN), RIVERHEAD (DK), ÜBERYOU (CH), and JUGHEAD’S REVENGE (USA) will perform, among many others.
Those who want to be part of it this year should hurry: The majority of the weekend tickets (85 EUR) have already been sold, and day tickets are available from 32.50 EUR.
