The Lower Bavarian musician KARIN RABHANSL, who lives in Nuremberg, has been singing in her native dialect for years – far removed from all the clichés of dirndl beer tent hits and après-ski hut parties that immediately come to mind when thinking of Bavaria. Her self-chosen category: Mundart-Riot!
As an expert in dialect, the artist from the Bavarian Forest has much to share about rock and pop music with dialect lyrics, about clichés and prejudices, about High German as a (first) foreign language, and what it’s like to perform with Bavarian lyrics in Berlin, Erfurt, Kiel, and Hamburg ...
“Rodeo” by Karin Rabhansl is a rich, beautifully dusty electric guitar track about the ride of life. The single cover features a linocut by the Nuremberg sculptor Christian Rösner.
The inspiration for this track came from the song "El Rodeo" from the last Kyuss studio album "… And the Circus Leaves Town" and the cowboy drama "The Rider" by Chloé Zhao, as well as the films "The Wrestler" and "Dallas Buyers Club," which relate to the romanticism of losers that is inherent in this theme. "The title character of the song has seen better days, yet he keeps getting back on the horse," says Karin Rabhansl. "Because he has to. Because he needs the money. Because he can’t do anything else. He has to stay in the saddle for eight seconds, that’s the deal. The bets are against him, but he fights while the audience – free after André Heller – goes to the circus to see the tightrope walker fall..."
“Rodeo” is the opener and title track of the fifth studio album by Mundart-Riot Queen Karin Rabhansl, which was released on February 24, 2023, on Donnerwetter Musik/Cargo.
In the 13 darkly colorful songs, it’s about persevering, coping, and gathering all your courage to take control when things don’t work out.
