In contrast to the social themes and determined defiance explored in The Luka State's recent releases, frontman Conrad Ellis confronts his own weaknesses and vulnerabilities in relationships in “Matter of Fact” - his poignant delivery reveals that his lyrics come straight from the heart. The band's DIY ethos is further underscored by the fact that the accompanying music video was spontaneously filmed at drummer Jake's house.
Conrad Ellis explains: “Sometimes, when I sing this kind of song in the studio, I slip into a role to really find the emotions of the song. This video was so much fun because I could bring this character to life. I always find that working with a fantastic actress like Tilly Sutcliffe makes things a little easier! I hope people enjoy the video as much as we did when we filmed it.”
The video's director, Jim de Whalley, adds: “I was inspired by the way 'Matter Of Fact' portrays love in an almost claustrophobic way. The video depicts such an evening when everything falls apart and the male protagonist reflects on how it came to this and what he can do to change things.”
The band, still based in their small hometown of Winsford in Cheshire, consists of Sam Bell (bass, vocals), Lewis Pusey (guitar), and Jake Barnabas (drums). They share a brotherhood that triumphs over the struggles, hard work, and endless touring that come with the life of an emerging band. This mindset is rooted in the lifelong friendship between Conrad and Sam. With each release, they have gained more support, including from Kerrang!, NME, Sunday Times Culture, The Line of Best Fit, Daily Star, as well as airplay from BBC Music Introducing, Absolute Radio, and Soccer AM. Additionally, they landed in over 38 editorial playlists on Spotify with the album title “More Than This.”
In March, the band will embark on their “More Than This” headline tour and will also perform concerts in Germany.
