The Grammy-nominated duo Larkin Poe returns with their wild new single "Bad Spell." It is the first release from the new album "Blood Harmony" by the Georgia-born multi-instrumentalists Rebecca and Megan Lovell. "Since the first time I heard 'I Put a Spell on You' by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, I wanted to write a female response to it," says Rebecca Lovell. "I had noted the title 'Bad Spell' in my diary years ago, and it was a lot of fun to write a song whose riffs are solely for the purpose of wickedness and boasting."
"Blood Harmony" once again confirms the strong musicality of the Nashville-based duo. Larkin Poe are considered a vital force in shaping the identity of Southern Rock'n'Roll, infusing the genre with a forward-looking perspective and female strength. The new album was produced together with Texas musician Tyler Bryant, who is married to Rebecca. Unlike previous albums like "Self Made Man" (2020), Larkin Poe have moved away from a closed-off approach. Megan is responsible for harmony vocals, lap steel, and resonator guitar in Larkin Poe, while Rebecca handles guitar and keys. Additionally, they have brought in members of their long-time live band, including drummer Kevin McGowan and bassist Tarka Layman.
Primarily recorded in Rebecca's and Tyler's home studio, the result is an electrifying new work that fully showcases the fiery vitality they display on their tours around the globe. On "Blood Harmony," Larkin Poe imbue their songs with both heartfelt sensitivity and captivating wildness. "When you follow your own stars, you never quite know where you’ll land," say Larkin Poe. The north on our compass is unique to us, and by following this north uncompromisingly, we have circumnavigated the world on the journey of our lives. And it still feels like this is just the beginning. 'Blood Harmony' is a creative step that we are proud to have taken together as sisters. These songs have grown in a sweet part of our hearts, and we hope they bring beauty."
Bad Spell is now available on all download and streaming services, and the official music video premieres today on YouTube.
