AnnenMayKantereit released their new album "12" on November 17, 2020, without a promotional phase and major announcements.
It is available on digital platforms.
Furthermore, "12" will also be released on CD and vinyl on November 27.
An unfocused band photo with a handwritten "12" on it was the first hint that the band AnnenMayKantereit gave their fans in advance of the album release of "12" on their social media channels. For last night at 11:30 PM, the trio announced a livestream on YouTube, in which AnnenMayKantereit presented their new album "12".
"12" was created during the first lockdown in spring 2020 and under the impression of the pandemic. "Accordingly, some of the songs are quite dark," says the band. "Overall, the new album is very much shaped by the weeks in which it was created. Via video call. By phone. By email and in chat conversations. Christopher was in the rehearsal room, Severin in a spontaneously set up home studio, and I had the opportunity to work at a disinfected piano. Including Markus Ganter (our producer) behind a glass pane. We actually exchanged ideas every day, discussed new elements, forwarded attachments, and talked about where the unfinished song 'wants to go'," says Henning May. The singer continues: "In mid-May, we then met in the Eifel to further develop the existing material. We often chose the moments. For the spontaneous phone recordings, for the slip-ups, the clearing of throats, the birds chirping, or creaking piano chairs. Hopefully, one can sense what we wanted to emphasize with that."
After the three heard the material, the band realized that it felt like an album. "12" is the third album by AnnenMayKantereit. It is an album from the lockdown. An album that was created in shock. "For us, it has always had three parts – the dark beginning, the sigh of relief afterwards, and the bittersweet truth at the end. We hope that this album is listened to in one go. The order of the songs is meaningful to us, and whoever is generous enough to listen to the album in this order has a cushioned seat in the multipurpose hall of our hearts," says the band.
AnnenMayKantereit was founded in 2011 in Cologne. Their first two albums "Alles nix Konkretes" and "Schlagschatten" achieved multiple gold certifications. AnnenMayKantereit consists of Henning May, Severin Kantereit, and Christopher Annen.
The album "12" by AnnenMayKantereit is now available digitally and will be released on November 27 on CD, LP, and deluxe LP version.
