The hardcore music of the early 80s from bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat still shows its influence in the sound of current bands today. But hardcore was more than just music; it was a lifestyle for youthful outsiders who let their anger and frustration with society run free. The film American Hardcore by Paul Rachman, who previously directed music videos for Bad Brains and Gang Green, and Steven Blush, author of the book "American Hardcore: A Tribal History", showcases this movement from its emergence to its sinking into obscurity in 1986. The film features interviews with Lucky Lehrer (Circle Jerks), Joey Keithley (D.O.A.), and Mike Watt (Minutemen), as well as many rare concert recordings from SS Decontrol, Dead Kennedys, and many other well-known and lesser-known names.
