On June 18 of this year, Markus "Zimbl" Zimmer from the Bates as reported passed away at the age of 41 in Kassel. His family and close friends, including some notable musicians, have come together to create a fitting tribute. The result is a 3-CD compilation titled "Rocking on Heavens Door - A Tribute To Zimbl", which will be available in a limited fan edition of 1,000 copies for 19.99 euros starting December 1, 2006. On December 28, a related party will take place at Spot in Kassel, featuring a memorial celebration for Zimbl, where relevant bands will perform Zimbl tribute songs along with their own live and acoustic sessions.
All proceeds from CD and merchandise sales, as well as the concert, will benefit the "Zimbl Foundation" in support of "FreeMobil" and "Hope for You". This aims to make a statement in the fight against the drugs that ultimately led to Zimbl's demise.
