More and more space is disappearing in Berlin, space that is important. It's not only crucial for young people to find themselves, but also to develop further. The BERLINER ROCKHAUS is under threat, as the landlord of the rehearsal rooms has terminated the lease.
I met with some artists from the BERLINER ROCKHAUS, took photos, and had conversations. These are bands that stylistically reside in different waters, yet they all agree: If the Rockhaus closes, their band projects are at risk. It affects about 1000 different artists, from metal bands to punk bands, guitar/drum lessons, rock bands, recording studios, etc.; everything that requires space in the realm of music is somehow represented in the BERLINER ROCKHAUS.
The new owner is not willing to engage in direct conversation with the tenant of the building at Buchberger Str. 6 (Berlin - Lichtenberg). Communication is only possible through lawyers. There have been disputes with the new owner of the house for over a year. He is looking for a reason to terminate Mr. Kümmele and his BERLINER ROCKHAUS prematurely. It is also quite unclear what is to happen with the building, as it has been up for sale for a year.
