The Dropkick Murphys are back! With "11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory," the new studio album will be released on January 6, 2017, via the band's own label, Born & Bred.
Four years have passed since the release of the last album, "Signed And Sealed In Blood," which debuted at #5 on the charts in Germany. But even after 20 years of band history and over four million albums sold, the Dropkick Murphys still know how to captivate and present eleven songs on the new work that sound more energetic than ever. In perfect harmony, they blend Celtic traditional sounds with the power of punk rock in their usual manner. A successful symbiosis that the Dropkick Murphys always round off with the smoky flavor of Boston - the highly revered hometown that has shaped the band's sound since its early days.
However, this time things were to be a bit different. Al Barr, Tim Brennan, Ken Casey, Jeff DaRosa, Matt Kelly, and James Lynch, along with producer Ted Hutt, packed their instruments, left Boston behind, and set off on the long journey to El Paso, Texas – to the Sonic Ranch Studios. It is the first time in the band's history that the Dropkick Murphys have recorded an album outside their hometown.
“There was nothing around us for miles. It was just us and the studio. I think it gave us the ability to work without distractions in a way that we’ve never really been able to before. All we could do was focus on music. It was one hundred percent devotion to the songs,” explains guitarist Tim Brennan.
The result is a soundtrack about tragedies as well as triumphs. "11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory" tells stories from the band's life, from childhood, from Boston, and also looks ahead. It is raw, it is real, it is the Dropkick Murphys. It is the perfect album to usher in the next 20 years of the band's history.
