From 1986 until the band's dissolution in 1988, he was the bassist of Die Ärzte. Upon their reunion in 1993, he was no longer involved due to his work as a music journalist, and Rodrigo González took his place. Hagen Liebing, known as "The Incredible Hagen," was not a full member, which would have meant sharing profits as well as bearing losses, but was employed by the band on a fixed salary. In 2003, he published his memoirs titled "The Incredible Hagen - My Years with Die Ärzte".
Liebing passed away on Sunday night at the age of 55 due to the effects of a brief severe illness. He is survived by his partner Anja Caspary, head of music at Radio Eins, as well as their two children.
