The US band Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas is finally coming to Europe, live and with their brand new EP "Caught Up," which will be released on April 17 via Instant Records. Just in time for the release, Jessica will be touring Germany as the support act for the legendary Social Distortion, at their explicit request.
On the "Caught Up" EP, the band from Detroit serves a wonderfully diverse mixture of equal parts rockabilly and surf pop, cabaret jazz, funk-reggae, Latin psych, and gypsy punk. Brewed on the hot pavement of Motor City and seasoned with the typical Detroit combination of loud R&B, showband theatrics, and boundless rock'n'soul energy.
"We get put into many boxes by a lot of people," says Hernandez herself. "We combine a lot of things that are a lot of fun, but at the same time dark and can evoke very different emotions in listeners."
Songs like 'Caught Up,' 'Sorry I Stole Your Man,' and 'Cry Cry Cry' impressively showcase the energetic voice Hernandez is blessed with and the musical ambition she displays when mixing contemporary pop with her own creative personality. The EP is rounded off by the two tracks 'Don't Take My Man To Idaho' and 'Deceptacon,' which will be exclusive to the European version. "Caught Up" is fresh, to the point, and surprising.
Although she places great value on independence and artistic freedom, Jessica Hernandez signed her first contract with Blue Note and recorded her debut album with producer and Grammy winner Milo Froideval. After the collaboration with Blue Note ended, Hernandez soon teamed up with the New York label Instant Records, founded by the legendary producer and songwriter Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, The Go-Gos, Dum Dum Girls). For her much-noted "Demons" EP from 2013, she used some tracks from her Blue Note sessions and recorded a few new songs live in the studio. This EP has stirred up quite a bit of dust, especially in the USA, with PopMatters calling it "a clear proof that the band deserves all the hype it gets." And the Huffington Post stated, "Hernandez paints on the grand canvas, and her unforgettable voice is just one of the colors in her extensive palette."
Now Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas are ready to present their uniquely cool Midwestern rock'n'soul in overheated clubs all over Europe. After patiently waiting to bring her music to this side of the Atlantic, Hernandez is fully motivated and well-prepared to spend the near future on the road. "The fact that my new EP is now being released in Europe is super exciting for us," says Hernandez. "Now it's time to get back in the van with my guys and show everyone why these songs mean so much to me."
The new album by Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas will be released in Germany in the second half of the year.
