NILS WÜLKER presents new video "Season" feat. Max Mutzke on YouTube and goes on tour
Even as an experienced and virtuosic jazz trumpeter and winner of the Jazz Echo, the search for special challenges does not stop. Accordingly, NILS WÜLKER has also expanded his sound repertoire on his new, eighth album "Up" with a crucial note. For the first time, his eloquent trumpet playing can be heard in conjunction with some great vocalists who have hardly appeared in a jazzy context before, such as Max Mutzke, Xavier Naidoo, and Sasha. "I found it very exciting to work with people who have a connection to jazz but are currently on a completely different path," explains NILS WÜLKER about "Up". "And since I have known Max for about a year and a half and have 'visited' him on stage a few times, it was natural to record a song from "Up" with him."

A connection that could hardly be more successful, as the song "Season" proves. The dialogue between Mutzke's voice and WÜLKER's subtle trumpet playing opened up the opportunity for both artists to bring new facets of their art to the fore. NILS WÜLKER's compositions have always possessed a certain song character, which receives empathetic support from Mutzke's voice. However, the trumpet remains the carrying element and possesses - as one knows from NILS WÜLKER - an exceptionally vocal character with its own melodic lines. In return, Mutzke's voice seems to approach the sound of an instrument on Seasons, so that one would rather speak of a duet than a vocal song. "On "Season", Max comes across quite differently than one knows him," says WÜLKER. "The song has led to an organic connection, and this was very important to me."
WÜLKER produced the album "Up" together with Peter Vetesse (among others Annie Lennox, Robin Gibb), film and orchestral composer Craig Armstrong (among others Massive Attack), and Mocky (Feist). It will be released on February 27.
From April 2015, Nils Wülker will be on tour in Germany with his band, presenting the music of "Up" live:
