After a name change, the influential neo-grunge band Daylight is now back under the name SUPERHEAVEN: An extensive European tour and the (re-)release of their breakthrough album "Jar" through the California institution Side One Dummy Records are included.
From the hardly Googleable Daylight to the catchy Superheaven: in terms of band names, the neo-grunge/punk band founded in 2008 has made a significant leap forward due to legal issues. It's nice that their music remains just as memorable and distinctive. The musicians from Doylestown/Pennsylvania will continue to sink their teeth into their grungy bastard of punk and emo, which they have cultivated over four EPs and one album, and they firmly push away the urge for artificially forced innovation.
Because aside from the band name on the specially reprinted covers of their breakthrough record “Jar” from 2013, the album remains exactly as it must feel like the wet dream of friendly, merging scenes. Grumpy hardness dances a waltz with melancholic poppy melodies, while the broad-shouldered, powerfully thumping drums glare at you from a dark corner and the constant bombardment from powerful guitar walls vigorously shakes your eardrums. It’s hard to just shuffle along and nod with a lowered head to musical relatives and companions like Basement, Balance & Composure, or Title Fight.
