The winner of Holland’s Got Talent (the Dutch version of "Das Supertalent") Amira is a sensation: Her impressive performance has enchanted millions of people and propelled her current album "Amira" from zero to number one on the Dutch longplay charts.
Her performance of the Puccini aria “O mio babbino caro” astonished the judges and spread worldwide over the internet. Just in the same week, the video was viewed 15 million times on YouTube, and talent scout Simon Cowell declared Amira a “real star.” Amira ultimately won the casting show with a captivating rendition of “Nessun dorma,” which exceeded all expectations and made it clear that a great talent was emerging.
Anyone who asks a ten-year-old girl about her favorite activity would hardly expect the answer to be “singing opera arias.” But that is exactly what excites Amira Willighagen. She is a very special girl, as she came up with the idea of dedicating herself to opera singing after discovering videos of opera singers while browsing on YouTube. She imitated what she saw and thus discovered her heart for opera. At her urging, her parents eventually allowed her to audition for “Holland’s Got Talent.”
Her debut CD features popular classics such as “Nessun dorma,” “Ave Maria,” “Nella Fantasia,” and of course “O mio babbino caro.” The young singer was accompanied by the renowned Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague.
In addition to her passion for music, Amira has a special cause in mind with the sale of her album. Half of her earnings go to the "Project Playground,” a charitable foundation she founded that builds playgrounds for children who have no opportunity to play in her hometown. Recently, the first playground became a reality in the Ikageng township in South Africa, her mother’s homeland. Amira herself opened it after raising the necessary funds through two concerts in Cape Town.
The album "Amira" will be released in Germany on 30.05.2014.
