BEE GEES "The Warner Bros. Years - 1987-1991"
5-CD box set featuring three studio albums, complemented by rare demos and outtakes, as well as the live recording of the legendary One For All concert available for the first time in full length on 2 CDs!
With over 200 million records sold, the BEE GEES are among the most successful pop bands in the world: Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb shaped the face of pop music for 50 years. The brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb began their career in 1959 and are now considered one of the most successful pop bands of all time. The BEE GEES have reinvented themselves multiple times throughout their career and received all major musical honors, including several Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame. In 1987, they signed with Warner Bros. and released three highly notable studio albums: "E.S.P.", "One", and "High Civilization".
This creative outburst of the "Gibb brothers" in the late eighties is now commemorated by the 5-disc collection, which includes all three studio albums as well as a selection of rare demos and studio outtakes. The highlight of the compilation is likely "One For All", the recording of a concert from 1989, which is available here for the first time in full length on 2 CDs. The 22-song live set was mixed by Barry Gibb himself and John Merchant and is presented in state-of-the-art sound that makes you feel as if you are there live. The box set will be released on April 17, 2014.
The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991 starts with the 17th BEE GEES album "E.S.P." from 1987, which reunited the trio with producer Arif Mardin, who had previously worked on several albums with the BEE GEES and produced the hit single "Jive Talkin‘". The album, which was very successful in Europe, includes the hit single "You Win Again", which soared to number 1 on the UK charts. In addition to all eleven original songs, the CD contains five bonus tracks, including the demo as well as the extended version and the edit mix of the title track "E.S.P.".
Two years later, the BEE GEES returned with the album "One" (1989). However, during the recordings, the family faced a tragedy when brother Andy Gibb – himself a very successful solo artist with several number 1 hits – unexpectedly passed away. As a result, the BEE GEES wrote the song "Wish You Were" for him and dedicated the album to him. Several singles emerged from the album, with the title track "One" breaking into the US charts. The CD contains several versions of the hit and the song "Shape Of Things To Come", which originally comes from the 1988 "Summer Olympics Albums: One Moment In Time".
"High Civilization" (1991) is the third album of the Warner Bros. Years. More than a million copies were sold in the early nineties, and the single "Secret Love" reached position 5 on the UK charts. Other key songs include "When He’s Gone", "The Only Love", and "Happy Ever After". "High Civilization" has been newly remastered exclusively for the box set and offers the authentic sound of the studio recordings that the band aimed to achieve at the time.
In 1991, the concert video "One For All" was released, showcasing a performance from 1989 in Melbourne, Australia, with which the band concluded their One For All World Tour. The concert featured songs from all eras of their career: both old hits from the late sixties like "I Started A Joke" and "Spicks And Specks" as well as major successes from the seventies like "Jive Talkin‘" and "Stayin‘ Alive" and newer songs like "Ordinary Lives", "You Win Again" guide the listener through the entire spectacular BEE GEES history. Some of the performances have made their way onto various compilations over the years, but on "The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991", the concert can be heard in full length for the first time in context!
Barry Gibb recently announced his tour Mythology: The Tour Live, which starts on May 15 in Boston and will visit six major cities. Barry's eldest son Stephen and his niece Samantha Gibb, the daughter of Maurice, will also be featured on the tour. After Andy passed away in 1988, Maurice in 2003, and Robin on May 20, 2012, Maurice is now the last surviving BEE GEE. However, the legacy of the brothers lives on: captured in great songs that remain indispensable to pop music today.
