While his albums are always emotional and energetic, his concerts are dynamic, spirited, and very personal experiences, featuring loud as well as quiet sounds, atmospheric parts, and rocking songs, paired with Parsons' incomparable voice and his immensely likeable nature.
The now Europe-based singer-songwriter from Philadelphia moves through various genres, blending emotionally charged rock with traces of soul & folk to create his own unique style.
Joseph Parsons, born in the mid-60s on the East Coast of the USA, moved back and forth between Philadelphia and Louisiana until he was 14 years old. He got into trouble with the law and was given the forced opportunity to get his life back on track at a work school in the mountains. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles, Boston, New York, and Louisiana, made music on the streets of Barcelona and other European metropolises, and worked in 1991 with the Anti Gulf War Peace Teams in orphanages in Baghdad before returning to Philadelphia in his late 20s to stay.
His time as a street musician in the streets and clubs of Europe and the USA was a formative musical early education for Joseph Parsons. With his first album 'Breath', he was able to establish himself in the early 1990s as one of the first singer-songwriters in the music scene of Philadelphia. By 1997, after four more studio albums, he landed a deal with the German label Blue Rose Records.
This also marked the beginning of Parsons' most productive time in the studio, resulting in 18 albums since then - either his own songs or songs with his bands (Hardpan, 4 Way Street, US Rails & Parsons Thibaud) that were released on Blue Rose Records, Sanctuary Records, or his own label Meer Music.
