Frei.Wild tries to take down Nordwand

Actually, the right-wing rock band, as they are referred to by some anti-fans, Frei.Wild wanted to take a break. However, it seems that money is already tight before the next tour, and so they are returning to their actual strengths. After other punk bands have already fallen victim to the cease-and-desist frenzy of South Tyrol, it has now hit Nordwand. The satire band is to be brought down by a parody of the Frei.Wild tour flyer. The beginning and certainly the further course of the story can be read on schoenerskins.de.

Last Friday, August 16, 2013, we received a lawyer's letter around 10:00 PM, which was sent to us on behalf of Frei.Wild GbR. The subject of the letter is the threat of a lawsuit for alleged copyright infringement and defamation to the detriment of Frei.Wild, as we took the cancellation of the planned Frei.Wild concert in Berlin's Spreepark as an opportunity to parody the current tour flyer. The total amount in dispute was estimated at a six-figure sum. Within a ridiculously short period of not even two working days, we were to sign a cease-and-desist declaration, in which we not only had to assure that we would no longer distribute the aforementioned flyer but also cover the lawyer's fees of around €2000 and any potential damages for Frei.Wild. Of course, we did not want to comply with this, as our understanding of the law does not align with that. We see our parody of the flyer legitimized by the right to free speech enshrined in the Basic Law.

NORDWAND sees itself as a satire punk band with a clear anti-fascist stance. To express our opinion, we have been parodying right-wing rock bands for several years, which have been using elements of our subculture for ages without any "return theft" occurring so far. We hope to annoy the right-wing scene in a humorous way.

In our opinion, Frei.Wild is a politically highly questionable band that propagates völkisch-nationalist lyrics and has unfortunately managed to establish itself far too much in the German music market. Discussions about the band have been ongoing in the media and on the internet for years, so we do not want to elaborate too much to justify our opinion. For us, Frei.Wild is a right-wing band, and that's that! And right-wing bands, no matter how many lawyers they have, will be parodied by us!
