Much too long winter, dreary spring, rainy summer – but all of that finally comes to an end! With "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!" the brand new single by Helge Schneider will be released on August 9, 2013, bringing us plenty of sunshine and changing everything from the ground up! The album, which also bears the promising title "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!", promises to be yet another true fireworks display of Schneider's artistry, eccentricity, and musical genius! The multiple award-winning entertainment icon and cult musician himself has already very foresightedly referred to the song as "the official football anthem for our German team" – so nothing can really go wrong for this year's Europa League matches!
But Schneider wouldn't be Schneider if he didn't have even more aces up the sleeves of his second-hand suit: The Ruhrpott god has taken on immortal jazz evergreens like Jerry Jeff Walker's cult number "Mr. Bojangles" and Judy Garland's worldwide hit "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" for a famously notorious reinterpretation in the style of Helge, and he also gives us a taste of some original songs from his upcoming film "00 Schneider – Im Wendekreis der Eidechse" (Trailer)!
The brand new material for "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!" was created in Schneider's Spanish hut and his legendary studio in Mülheim. Of course, Helge traditionally played and recorded all the instruments himself. However, after returning to his home in Mülheim, he realized that he would have to re-record some pieces because they had been "too loud for his neighbors in Spain"! "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!" offers the ideal mix of self-composed jazz pieces, rediscovered classics, and original tracks from his also created between Mülheim and Spain film spectacle "00 Schneider – Im Wendekreis der Eidechse". According to Helge Schneider, the album is "playable all year round" despite its summery title – so here too, ideal conditions for a future classic!
Helge already provided a first taste last night on TV Total, when he exclusively performed "Mr. Bojangles" live with the heavytones alongside Stefan Raab.
The album "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!" including the title track is now available for pre-order everywhere! Shortly and with a live introduction of the new songs from "Sommer, Sonne, Kaktus!", Helge Schneider will go on an extensive tour with his band starting June 22, 2013, first in Austria, and then in German halls from June 29, 2013.
