With "Metroland," the first single from the new OMD album "English Electric" (release date: 05.04.13 / BMG Rights Management) has been released today. Written, recorded, produced, and mixed by OMD – consisting of Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys – heavenly choirs announce the beginning of a grand, bold, and sublime synthpop odyssey. Grounded on one hand by an industrial backbone and on the other hand, filled with spirit and euphoric aspirations towards the sky and beyond.

Andy McCluskey: "The song is inspired by the campaign slogan of the 'London Metropolitan Railway Line' from the early 20th century. It was: 'Come and live in Metroland.' As a result, so many commuters moved from the smoky capital that the very rural idyll they sought was overwhelmed by a miles-wide suburb of pseudo-Tudor. The grasp for utopia simultaneously destroys it."

The track has been remixed by The Manhattan Clique (Lady Gaga, Nelly Furtado, La Roux, Katy Perry), Roger Erikson (Depeche Mode), and Metroland from Belgium.

"Metroland" is also available as a 12” single version:

A1) "Metroland" (album version)

B1) "The Great White Silence" (exclusive to the 12")

With recurring themes of technology and space, the highlights of the album range from "Please Remain Seated" – Dazzle Ships' "ABC Auto-Industry" in a reissue for the 21st century – and "Night Cafe" – a homage to Edward Hopper, with lyrics composed of titles from his works – to "The Future Will Be Silent," a track that weaves musical styles into a hypnotic effect.

"English Electric" is the successor to the 2010 release "A History of Modern," the title of the album comes from a British industrial company. The original quartet of Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes, and Martin Cooper is celebrating the band's 35th anniversary this year and will tour Europe and the USA in early April.
