Hello, I am Sebastian Lind from Denmark, 23 years old, 172 centimeters tall, or depending on your perspective, also tall. I am a musician. I write and arrange my songs myself, produce them independently, and design my merchandise myself. I also create the covers of my records and put a lot of thought into the content of my videos. Nevertheless, I am not an idealist. I do not adhere to any philosophies except my own, which are based on my experiences. I would describe myself as a realist, and precisely for this reason, I do not want what is important to me to appear mundane – music.
Thank you for reading my words up to this point. I am aware that as a music enthusiast, you are bombarded daily with biographies of hopeful young musicians meant to spark your interest in a new CD. Well, to be honest, that is exactly what this text aims to achieve. But it does not want to dazzle you with superlatives. It would be pretentious of me to claim that my music can be more than your travel companion. Travel companion? Where to? You know better than I do. In order for you to understand my journey to music so far, I will try to explain who I am.
I mostly spend my time in the recording studio, which might suggest a suspicion of escapism into music. However, I am actually doing relatively well. Even in the real world. I just sometimes wish I could be one-eleventh of a football team. Music is an extreme beast. It can make you relatively lonely, but it can also create an disproportionately strong bond. I do not lament. Self-determination has its price.
I am not a singer/songwriter in the classical sense. The wonder bag of pop pushes too many different playing styles through the studio entrance every morning. Writing songs and then recording them only with the guitar would not occur to me. At least not exclusively. Electronics offer possibilities to lure song ideas onto interesting paths.
“I Will Follow” is attributed a certain melancholy. I do not wrap the world in gray. Sometimes the fun lies under a cloud of dust. Sometimes it is so obvious that the melancholy yearns for visibility. Often, the perception of the emotional content of a record is influenced by its production method. I work independently, can realize my artistic visions, which is no less stressful. But I impose the stress on myself. “I Will Follow” is calm and atmospheric. It is naked, if you will. And it is me, Sebastian Lind.
I think it’s good that my song titles sometimes act like Trojan horses. “Choose Love” is not a love song, at least not in the linear sense. Even a seemingly simple song like “Woods” does not want to convey a transparent message. I love using symbols to let multiple stories live within one story. I love the creative process. Often it has something of an autistic self-occupation. With the title track “I Will Follow,” I offer my condolences, but I leave open to whom I am offering them. You should make the song your own. I had to work out the meaning of the lyrics to the new single “Never Let Go” for myself. It is an improvised text. I liked the atmosphere of the spontaneous recording, and that’s why I kept it. Precisely because the text apparently makes no sense, it makes a lot of sense. You can already tell that I want to provoke thought and feeling. My support slots for James Morrison and Mads Langer were inspiring in terms of professionalism. My many solo performances made me believe that the dream of gaining respect and connection through music has become a reality.
I hope this text has made you a bit curious about my music. If my music makes you curious about me, I would be happy to meet you for an exchange of thoughts. You already know quite a bit about me. I know nothing about you yet. But I am interested, curious, hungry. Perhaps that’s why I became a musician.
