It has been a little over two years since their album “Kommt wir hauen Granaten rein. Das kleine bisschen Leben.” An album that allowed them to rise to a focal point of the Austrian indie scene: Top 5 - Amadeus nomination, chart placements, airplay on radio and music television, concerts at home and abroad – on the big festival stages as well as in the small clubs. However, time was also used differently: 60 songs and song sketches were written and recorded, side projects started, a book worked on, a record label kept running… Meanwhile, the usual madness. For Alf Peherstorfer, the head of Kommando Elefant, the creative output is always set to continuous fire. Ultimately, 11 songs made it onto their third album “Scheitern als Show,” produced by Alexander Nefzger and Florian Pilz. “These 11 songs are very honest. Not only thematically, but also regarding the arrangements and execution.” (Alf Peherstorfer)
They largely refrained from excessive orchestration and guest musicians - not least because the former duo has grown into a four-member formation. Thematically, failure runs like a red thread through the album and provides a coherent concept that develops across all 11 songs on a meta level. Kommando Elefant does not take a stance where they look down from a safe distance and point fingers at everyone else. In all songs, there is a high degree of self-reflection as they sweep in front of their own door. And it wouldn’t be the smart, witty, and self-critical Kommando Elefant if they hadn’t also failed with this album: Ultimately, the title track “Scheitern als Show” had to be thrown in the trash. “Of course, you are also afraid of failure. Especially with a complex and contradictory project like Kommando Elefant, many people can’t relate. But that shouldn’t be our problem – and if you fail once, you keep going because you have to.” (Alf Peherstorfer)
