Being emo may seem cool in this country. The mostly teenage followers can usually be recognized by their clothing and hairstyles. This has now become a curse for them in Iraq. A real hunt for the local emos has begun there. Under the name "Brigades of Wrath," Islamists are hunting down the emos, whom they accuse of having a homosexual attitude. Fanatics view same-sex love as a mortal sin that must be punished. Since the beginning of February, 90 to 100 Iraqi emos have already been stoned, shot, or thrown off rooftops. The latter is also applied in the crime of homosexuality.
