Zwischenfall - A Retrospective
Since 1985, the Zwischenfall Bochum has provided a vibrant and authentic home for subcultures and music of nearly all kinds. Even in its early days, the Zwischenfall and its team naturally shaped various genres and movements. It was the leading club in terms of Dark Wave, Independent, and Electro, well-known far beyond the country's borders. The Wave and Gothic scene would hardly have experienced such a renaissance in this country, and specifically in the Ruhr area, from the mid-eighties to the early nineties without this venue. By 1986/87, the first Punk and Gothic concerts were held on the in-house stage, and influential bands and figures such as Christian Death, Shock Therapy, NOFX, Rich Kids On LSD, and Hardcore Straight-Edge bands like Youth Of Today and Gorilla Biscuits graced Bochum with legendary concerts, some of which celebrated their first successes here.
18.08.2011 - The End of the Zwischenfall Club
Due to the negligence of some residents, the legendary Zwischenfall fell victim to flames on the night of August 18th to 19th. The hours-long firefighting efforts, along with the burned roof structure and upper floor, made reconstruction impossible, and thus the Zwischenfall - as we knew it - is irretrievably part of history.

There is no doubt that subculture in North Rhine-Westphalia has suffered a significant loss. Visitors, operators, and bands have lost a special and music-historical platform for expression. We hereby call on bands, fans, agencies, and the press to participate in order to continue actively writing history and to make a new beginning with new premises possible! The solidarity project for the new club "Zwischenfall.2" should be brought into focus as much as possible.
Project "Zwischenfall.2“ - The Plan
From August to December 2011, solidarity concerts will be organized for all the different music areas for which the Zwischenfall has been a reliable entity for over a quarter of a century.
