The gray area. The boundaries are fluid; the guardians of the crossed-out swastika showed the way, and the masses march in step behind them. More and more so-called punks idolize bands that are absolutely intolerable. No leaders, no heroes, that was once; instead, patriotism is in vogue. A little love for one's homeland isn't wrong, and what do I care about the environment in which the band in front of me on stage operates? I want to celebrate, have my fun, but for heaven's sake, I don't want to think about politics. I never wanted to be punk, I was never punk, and I never want to be associated with that term again.
The competition. p-u-n-k.de had the same idea as MySpace implements – to offer bands a way to present themselves without having to go through the effort of creating their own homepage. This idea existed long before MySpace even saw the light of the server room. More and more commercial competitors are sprouting up, while it gets quieter here. To set up a similar offering, there is not only a lack of time, absolute will, and especially money. And that brings us to the main reason.
The money. Seven years of work on the site, for the site. Then there are incompetent idiot hosts who shut down the servers without warning because they have died, only to quietly rise again a few months later. Is it Easter already? On top of that, the regular costs for the server, other financial expenses, all of this becomes more expensive with the growth of the content. Paying a lot of money to create a lot of work, these factors just don't fit together.
Enough reasons to reorient myself. I will invest my energies in RamTatTa in the future, albeit with significantly reduced effort. This site should finally generate profit. Enough with the ad-free experience; who does that benefit? Just click on the colorful pictures once or twice a day; it won't hurt you, and it motivates me to keep RamTatTa alive. That's exactly what I will depend on from my monthly bank statement. Fund this crap or do it alone.
Finally, a little preview of how RamTatTa is supposed to look in a few months. There will still be reviews, a few interviews, and concert reports. Music from A to Z, maybe even a punk band or two. But I won't focus on that anymore. For financial success, one must be willing to make compromises. Privately, I also prefer to listen to Big FM and SWR3 today instead of the old records. Until the new development can go online, p-u-n-k.de will continue to exist. But as soon as RamTatTa 2.0 is finished, it will replace this site here. Check out a little preview now and stay tuned.
