The good thing about yesterday's local elections is that the far-right parties hardly played a role anymore. Even though this doesn't mean everything will be fine, at least in Wattenscheid there is now a bearer of hope for a glorious future of this state. There, Wolfgang "Wölfi" Wendland, who has been working as the singer of the powerful Kassierer, won a seat in the district council. The independent candidate ran in the first position on the list of the Left Party. They received about 6% of the votes in the election, more than doubling their election result in Wattenscheid.
Wendland began his political career earlier in the APPD as shadow minister for health and drugs in the 1998 election. Previously, he was a member of the CDU, which expelled him due to his APPD candidacy. In 2005, he ran as the chancellor candidate for the APPD. He began his local political engagement in 2006 with the demand for a cultural center in Wattenscheid and the founding of the "Aktionsgemeinschaft Kulturzentrum Wattenscheid". To emphasize this demand, he organized numerous demonstrations in the Wattenscheid city center during the summer months of 2007 and 2008.
