In the Hamburg Hafenstraße, a blockade of about 100 construction trailers and trucks was cleared by the police today. Approximately 85 demonstrators were temporarily arrested. The participants aimed to demonstrate for greater acceptance of trailer living with the blockade.
Shortly after 7 a.m., the four-lane road was blocked. Three hours later, the police began the clearing operation. During this, the trailers parked on the street were broken into and confiscated. Batons and water cannons were also used, resulting in injuries to several participants in the demonstration. In response, about 50 demonstrators moved further into the city center.
The police justify their harsh actions with the coercion paragraph 240 of the German Criminal Code. The demonstration was not authorized.
