Die Toten Hosen release their last regular studio album:
„Drink up, we have to go!“ + bonus album „Everything must go!“ was released on 29.05.2026
Nine years after „Laune der Natur“, Die Toten Hosen finally release another long player with new songs. With „Drink up, we have to go!“, the five musicians close a circle almost 45 years after their founding in 1982: It will be the band's last regular studio album. „One person shouted in the rehearsal room: 'Let's make one last album!' No idea who that was exactly, but the enthusiasm was great. We then decided together to shoot from all barrels and put out everything we can,“ says Campino.
And indeed, the band fires on „Drink up, we have to go!“ once again the entire range they have stood for for decades – loud and quiet, euphoric and melancholic, personal and political. At the same time, the band looks back on their own lives and their shared history.
In a joint preface, Die Toten Hosen write: „Almost 45 years after the founding of the Opel Gang, our last regular album is now before you. This does not mean that Die Toten Hosen are breaking up! Because we are friends, we will only do that in the cemetery – Jochen, Wölli, and Faust are already waiting for us there. It's about something else: We will remain as a gang, but we will gradually withdraw. This also means that we no longer want to make albums that reflect our lives and have always been a kind of diary for us. In a song, we shouted many years ago: 'We will set the end ourselves!' It is important to us to keep this announcement.”
The band describes „Drink up, we have to go!“ as a kind of last great chapter of their shared history – an album about beginnings, farewells, and everything in between. Songs like „What once was“ or „No leaf between us“ directly deal with their own past, friendship, and the people who have accompanied the band on their journey.
The album is complemented by the extensive bonus album „Everything must go!“, on which Die Toten Hosen, together with numerous artists, have recorded 25 songs that mean a lot to them. „This record contains 25 songs that we love. Songs by friends, by role models, and by people whose work we admire. Songs that we would have liked to write ourselves,“ explains the band.
In doing so, the five musicians were not about reinterpreting the pieces or imposing a special artistic trick on them. Instead, they wanted to „sneak in unobtrusively“ – as „stowaways“ in their own favorite songs. All titles were created together in duet with the respective original interpreters or companions.
Thus, a collection of diverse musical influences and encounters emerged that is both personal and surprising. „When we read through the names that appear together on this record, it seems a bit absurd to us,“ writes the band. „At least we wouldn't have necessarily assumed that one day punk legend Charlie Harper and Vicky Leandros would be involved in the same album.”
For the design of „Drink up, we have to go!“, Die Toten Hosen were also able to enlist their long-time friend Andreas Gursky. Based on one of his most famous works, a joint cover motif was created that brings together the collaboration between the band and the artist in a special way.
„The world won't care too much, but we have incredible joy in it,“ write Die Toten Hosen about the entire project. „And if you can share it with us a little, all the effort was worth it.”
„Drink up, we have to go!“ + „Everything must go!“ was released on 29.05.2026.
