Christmas is everywhere, the pre-Christmas stress has given way to the contemplative Christmas feelings that seem to have caught even the last holdouts. One more week, and the year 2007 will also be history, time to look back at the past. For p-u-n-k.de, not everything went according to plan; last year's move to a new host turned out to be a complete failure. Recurring technical problems and outages left little time for innovations and wore on the nerves of not just the visitors. On December 20, the total disaster struck, the host closed its doors and shut down the servers, including all files, without warning. Since then, inquiries have been consistently ignored, so the site is now running with a new, old host. In a rush action, the remaining backups were transferred back to the host I left in 2006 due to fewer freedoms in configuration and significantly higher costs. I have learned from this: quality also comes at a price. Therefore, a backup server is already ready with another host, which is supposed to keep all data redundant as soon as everything is running smoothly again to avoid similar issues in the future. However, the domain is still missing, which webhodi.de is still keeping under wraps, and without it, only a limited emergency operation is possible.
Even though due to the missing URL, hardly anyone will read this news at the current time, I would like to point out, since it is Christmas, at least one extremely generous band as a thank you for the loyalty. The alternative metal band Wirksystem has released a proud eleven albums in its nearly 15 years of existence. The special thing is that all titles are offered for free download on their homepage, but a packed MP3 disc can also be ordered in the shop for only three euros.
Other sites where a lot of music is offered for streaming and sometimes also as a free download by the bands:
Download.com Music
GarageBand
Internet Archive: Netlabels
Jamendo
MP3.com.au
MyOwnMusic
Purevolume
Soundclick
SoundPedia
A planned personal gift could unfortunately not be completed due to the stressful days with the outage, but it will follow as soon as possible. So stay tuned and visit us regularly.
